Beyoncé: Our Mistakes Make Us Who We Are
Beyoncé tells women to remember that they are worth it, and reminds people not to fear mistakes, because they make us who we are. Original post by Goalcast April 22, 2017
When I first took on this thing called 'Teen Girls Empowerment Expo'; I couldn't conceive of how much it would take to bring it to fruition, or the impact it would have. It simply started with a conversation, but grew into something much bigger than I had ever imagined.
Once I the idea was formed, I went full steam ahead with it. I created an EIN, domain name, website, logo all the key ingredients to starting a business. Then thought of good dates because this would eventually kick off to a Vision Board Party so it needed to be at the beginning of the year. I wanted this to be reminiscent of adult workshops, seminars, and conferences for teenagers. We chose January 14th, to get things turning over on MLK weekend.
Next came the planning phase. I asked myself where/what venue? I initially wanted to employ a female co-working space in downtown Atlanta, but needed enough room to accommodate possibly 50 girls, their parents, caterers, and space to create. Next time!
My husband and I with lots of input from our kids began brainstorming ideas. We thought there should be a good representation from middle school/high school counselor, a community activist, medical doctor, a teacher/educator, a health/wellness advisor, a recent college grad, and lastly a politician. We weren't able to get them all for the first one, but they are still on my list for future events.
I thought who we could have as speakers to impact these girls with a passion, and enthusiasm for what they do and present a really well-rounded expo with all female entrepreneurs. I definitely wanted the feel of Girl Power!
So, I channeled my inner Beyonce. Lol!
These young ladies came to mind:
Michelle Dawes Birt of Real Chicks Rock!™ radio show personality, public speaker, community service activist, retailer, philanthropist and her mission is to empower ALL women.
Attallah Pamoja of Design Our Lives, educator/advocate, model, creative/wardrobe stylist.
Derrin Moore of InFlight Gymnastics coach and gymnast who educates empowers young ladies through the sport of Gymnastics and
Dominique Smith, M.D. OB/GYN of Premier Women's Healthcare and Asthetics who provides obstetrical and gynecological services for women of all ages and more.
I am so thankful for what was birthed from the seed that was sown.
All the girls were from different schools and areas of GA that came together to be a part of the event. To see them listening intently to the speakers, engaging in Q&A during the open panel discussions, and then later diving into crafting some extremely unique Vision Boards completed the whole day for me. The energy in the room was awe-inspiring.
To my family - my daughter, my mom, my aunt, who traveled from NJ to support, my BFF's/sisters who shared the event, and came through, to friends who shared their reach through the media; the brothers at 'The Cypher' Talk Radio Show, Deirdre of AllniteRadio.com who added the event to their monthly newsletter, to the parents who supported their daughters and brought them to the event, to the Outstanding/Phenomenal Speakers ❤️ - Michelle Dawes Birt of Real Chicks Rock!™ who listened to what I wanted to accomplish and jumped right in with both feet, worked tirelessly doing drive by venue viewings, and so much more, Attallah Pamoja of Design our Lives who also jumped right in excited and ran with this right along with us, Derrin Moore of In Flight Gymnastics who joined in ready to give back 100%, Dominique Smith of Premier Women's Healthcare who did the very same thing, was so excited from the moment I asked her to be involved and two other dynamic female entrepreneurs who contributed because they were inspired by what we were starting and wanted to share it - Jessica Ford of STEMulated Minds, Lacey Thornton of Powerful Beginnings, to my brothers Timothy Sifford aka DJ Kemetik, Bruce Williams photographer, to my sons Devin Williams photo/videographer, Vincent Williams jr who chipped in everywhere - created bookmarks, took multiple store runs and then some, and to my husband Vincent Williams Sr, who wholeheartedly supported this vision there are no words to really express how I feel. I remain humbled and simply say "Thank You!" I cannot and could not have done this without you....
My heart and spirit are so full of the energy that was shared on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Please stay connected to this organization for the things we are planning in the future. This will definitely not be the last expo, there is still more to do.
